Introduction

Use the CPAD Edition of MapCollaborator to help GreenInfo Network improve the California Protected Areas Database

Before adding or editing data, please review these EDITING GUIDELINES.

Choose from the actions below to review holdings, add comments about holdings, propose the addition of new holdings (drawing on the map or uploading your own GIS files), or propose the reshaping of existing holdings.

To get notices of when updates to CPAD are published, sign up for our notification list.

Choose a location

Choose a location by using the zoom tools on the map, OR search by:





Select lands to review

Attach a note to the map

Navigate to desired location and click Start to place a note on the map. Click Clear to start over. Fill in the form and Save.

Draw a new holding

Navigate to desired location and click Start to draw a recommended new holding outline on the map. Click Clear to start over. To re-shape it, grab vertex points and move to correct position. Fill in the form and Save.

Edit a CPAD holding

Click start, then click a holding on the map. To re-shape it, grab vertex points and move to correct position, then modify attributes below, if needed - or just modify the attributes. Fill in rest of form and Save.

Upload a Shapefile or KML

You can upload an ESRI Shapefile or a KML file of your holdings and see it on the map. For Shapefiles, you must first compress them into one .zip file, and be sure to include a .prj file.

Browse your computer to select your .zip or .kml file, then click "Show on Map" to upload and display on the map.
