Getting Started

• Navigate the map to your area of interest.
• IBAs: Click on any Important Bird Area to view details.
• Layers: Check boxes on the Layers dialog to toggle map layers.
• Base map: You can change the underlying base map by clicking on one of the five buttons in the upper right corner of the map: base, streets, terrian, hybrid, aerial.

Important Bird Areas

Click on an Important Bird Area to view details. If the Important Bird Areas are not visible on the map, open the layers dialog and check the box next to the layer.

Land Cover vs. Habitat

Land Cover was generated from the USGS's 2001 National Land Cover Database. Land cover refers to the physical and biological cover over the surface of land, including water, vegetation, bare soil, and/or artificial structures. Habitat was generated from the California Wildlife Habitat Relationships System, a wildlife information system and predictive model for California's regularly-occurring birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, that describes 53 habitats. Map Layers

Click on Layers to open the layers dialog. The dialog includes a list of layers available for displaying on the map. To add a layer to the map, click on the checkbox next to the layer name. The following is a list of the available layers:

• Important Bird Area:Essential habitat for breeding, wintering, and migrating birds as identified by Audubon California. more info
• Audubon Property: Audubon properties boundary lines more info
• Audubon Chapter: Audubon chapters boundary lines
• Protected Lands:Generated from the California Protected Areas Database; lands that are permanently protected for open space purposes by public agencies or non-profit organizations. The lands range from huge national forests to very small urban parks. Federal, state, county, city, special district and non-governmental agency holdings are included and have been mapped at high levels of accuracy. more info
• Congressional Congressional district boundary lines
• California Senate California Senate district boundary lines
• California Assembly California Assembly district boundary lines
• County Line County boundary lines

Map Navigation

Zoom options:

• Enter an address or City, State in the upper right corner and click "zoom to"
• Click on the + or - to zoom the map in and out
• Click on the magnifying glass and drag a box on the map to zoom in
• Use the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom in and out of the map

Pan options:

• Click on the hand icon and click on the map to pan
• Click on an arrow in the upper right corner of the map to pan

Show or Hide Dialogs

Hide:
To hide the Layers, Important Bird Area Details or Help dialogs, click on the "x" in the upper right corner.

Show:
To show the dialogs click on the Layers or Important Bird Area Details links at the top of the page or the Help link at the bottom of the page.
